Loch Shiel Festival

Loch Shiel Festival

1st - 75h MAY

Taking place every year in late April or early May, The Loch Shiel Spring Festival is now established as one of the most interesting and inspiring chamber music festivals in Scotland. Loch Shiel itself is one of the longest lochs in Scotland, and the Loch Shiel Festival is designed to bring together the communities around the loch by hosting outstanding and unique chamber music performances by leading musicians each year. The Festival's relationship with its local area makes it completely unique, making great use of the variety of outstanding venues the area possesses.

The festival's main base is Glenfinnan, which lies at the head of the loch and is famous for the being the gathering place of Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobites in 1745. It is also the place of the famous railway viaduct, which opened in 1901 and has featured in the Harry Potter films. Glenfinnan also boasts some wonderful venues, including the beautiful Church of St Mary and St Finnan. Other events take place at the wealth of venues in surrounding areas including, Glenuig, Roshven, Strontian, Acharacle, Glenborrodale and Kinlochmoidart.

The Festival was founded in 1997 by local composer and patron of the arts, Patrick Samuel-Stevens.
